Ebb Tide
Return to Bach DD Society

The Ebb Tide Beach Club

Formerly a cafe, the Ebb Tide is now a Beach Club downstairs from the Bach Society. It will be open weekends and holidays to Beach Club members and invited guests. Bach Society audiences are invited inside on concert days and perhaps join as part of their Society membership.

Purpose: A semi-private club for members and traveling visitors who wish to have a congenial place to enjoy the ocean view – a third place to hang, meet people, and participate in occasional hosted activities. A truly social place devoid of selling product. (The old “salon” concept has some relevance.)

Membership: The Ebb Tide Beach Club was created to keep the doors open downstairs at the Douglas Beach House to those who wish to share and respect its oceanfront location and laid back atmosphere. Membership does not discriminate based on racial, ethnic or social background. However, those who are not comfortable around a mixed group of people and are seeking complete privacy, should consider membership carefully. A sixty-day trial membership is offered. The Club has the right to withdraw membership based on unacceptable or inconsiderate behavior or language.
Membership costs $100 per year, to be used for maintenance of club facilities (cleaning, utilities, rent, etc.). A non-elected board of directors will manage funds for the maintenance of club facilities, pay rents or sponsor special events. The Ebb Tide Beach Club is in no way legally connected to the Bach DD Society, a non-profit organization for presenting the musical arts. However, members and attendees of the Bach are welcome to join, but will have no special privileges over other members of the Beach Club. Members of the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society may join at a cost of $50 per year.
Curious passers-by and Bach concert attendees are welcome to sit down and check out the club as a Guest before possibly joining. Membership applications are available on-site at the Club.

Member Privileges

Will have access to the outside deck and inside the Club salon on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, 9 am to sunset most weekends of the year. No reservation required or accepted.

Members may bring a maximum of four guests at any one time during the day. Guests will sign in at the Guest Book.

A limited supply of coffee and drink and a small selection of snacks and sweet rolls will be available. Donations are requested to be used to maintain food supplies.

Members can volunteer to host a half-day shift. Hosts will be on-site to sign in and serve members, and assist in their comfort and knowledge of club facilities.

Members can bring their own beverages (no hard liquor). Weather permitting, members may also bring a small picnic, but are restricted to the outside deck and tables due to limited inside space.

Member Hosts can produce special events such as movie night, discussion groups or small musical gatherings, and must seek approval from the directors as to content and duration. Any additional food or drinks for such events shall be provided by the host who may seek reimbursement through donations.

Club facilities can be made available to members who may wish to rent the space for small private gatherings weekdays or evenings. Any special use of facilities during off-hours must be approved by the owner of the property.

There’s no place like the Ebb Tide on the San Mateo Coast.
Fifty feet from the ocean, coffee shop patrons can soak up the “music” of the waves and sea birds or enjoy a great selection of tunes chosen by the legendary music man, Pete Douglas. For weekend people-watching, there’s an interesting parade of pedestrians, bicyclists, skaters, and dog walkers on the Coastal Trail. Sea lions, dolphins and occasional migrating gray whales can be seen sharing the sea with surfers, sailors, and fishermen. The warm interior provides a cozy, homey atmosphere for relaxation and reflection on foggy days and evenings.
